A Little Bit About Me…

Design and I are an accident.

Born in sunny California and raised in snowy Pennsylvania, I joined the high school Commercial Art class because a friend at the time kept complaining about it. That was the best accident that has ever happened in my life.

Compared to all the other classes in school (and I was in some pretty hard courses – typical nerd) this was the hardest. Few made it through to senior year, but every single student that graduated from Commercial Art got a scholarship to attend art school.

The instructor, Mr. Krol sparked my curiosity in design and a pride in work ethic. He taught us that design was about evoking emotion and bringing an idea to life through a visual medium. He would always preach: “Isn’t it funny that the harder I work, the luckier I get.” I will forever be grateful to that old man who instilled in me a love for design and fearlessness when it comes time to roll up my sleeves and get to work.

Yasmine Robles - Head Designer

“Isn’t it funny that the harder I work, the luckier I get.”

I ended up at Columbus College of Art & Design in Columbus, Ohio. During one of the tours, I learned that the Industrial Design major was one of the hardest there and that few made it out. Of course, I thought joining sounded like a great idea.

During my time there, I created things like cardboard chairs (a grown man sat on mine!) to a baby monitoring device. By working in 3D, I realized that when designing, every corner, curve, and, in terms of websites, the placement of graphics, has to be intentional. Whether it’s a chair or an e-commerce site, the user has to have a seamless experience.

After graduation, I was hired by the sign shop where I had interned. I loved helping design and build signage. From using photoshop to a table saw, I enjoyed learning every aspect of the process. After realizing that there were so many small businesses in need of a better digital design and branding, I started freelancing and learning to code. I even loved working in the fast paced world of retail but something was always tugging at me.

I wanted to help new entrepreneurs establish a kick-ass website and brand!

I wanted to be in the trenches working on everything from graphics to development, rather than being placed in one or the other. As much as I loved my job, I finally dove full force into Robles Designs.

Robles Designs gets me closer to the client. It helps me understand the client’s needs, dreams, and goals which I wouldn’t necessarily get at a large company. I enjoy the unique challenges that different clients bring and I love to see their companies grow.
