Don't Forget: Update Your Contact Page
Want to know the top webpage that is often overlooked - to the point that it’s sometimes not even created?!
It’s the Contact page. Whether there’s a pandemic going on or it’s business as usual, make sure that you’re checking in on this page if there’s ever any change to your basic operations and client facing methods.
For example, if you’re a restaurant that has started offering delivery or curb-side pick up, you’ll want your fans to know! I’ve already searched some of my favorite local restaurants and couldn’t find ANY information on what is going on. Are they closed? Are they offering curb-side pickup? Delivery? Is it everything on their menu or just a few items?
Here’s the top items you should be on the look out for the Contact page on your website.
1. Do you have a contact page?
Yes, I know. Why would I even bring this up? You’d be surprised at how many sites I’ve visited that have no way of contacting the business, no hours, no phone number, nothing! Needless to say, I didn’t do business with them.
2. Do you have a form?
If you do just one thing, make sure you have a form and that it’s functional. You don’t want to be the one with only the email written out (and not even linked), forcing me to copy and paste it. Why are you making it so hard for me to get a hold of you?
3. Most up-to-date phone number?
Ensure that the phone number (if applicable) is correct and being displayed on the site. This is especially important if you’re a local business with a customer facing store-front. Not sure if you can answer every call? Add a note that you’d love for customers to leave a clear message with their contact information and that you’ll get back to them.
4. Are your business hours correct?
Make sure that your hours are the right ones and that you add a note about any changes or if you prefer to see customers by appointment only. This will help signal that they just can’t come to your business. If the hours are correct but have changed temporarily, add the new hours and, if you’d like, the old hours with a note about how the new ones are just meant to be temporary.
5. Make your email and phone numbers clickable.
Think about it. When were you super excited about having to copy and paste a phone number in your phone? Or what about having to paste the email into your Apple mail or Outlook? Now think about how you never noticed how seamless it was to just click on a phone number on your phone and call a business to ask a question? You didn’t. Because it was so easy. That’s why you get to make sure your email and phone number are clickable.
Bonus
A few other items you can add to your website’s contact page include:
1. Social media icons
These shouldn’t be distracting. They are a subtle suggestion that the person can also find you on other platforms.
2. A testimonial or 2
A small blurb from someone stating how awesome they think you are can subtly reinforce you as the guru you are.
The 2 suggestions above should never take away from the Contact page goal - getting people to fill out a form or call you. They will be placed towards the bottom or in subtle colors so that they don’t draw too much attention.
Contact pages are these secret weapons that give the user value and can be really simple to make. Don’t ignore them, especially when your business is in the middle of multiple changes. The best part? This can take as little as a few minutes!
